The Seoul Metropolitan Government designated ‘Hangeul Gaon-gil,’ which means a road with a center where the traces of the birth and development of Hangeul are permeated, and created a street with the theme of Hangeul. Hangeul Gaon-gil is a purely Korean expression meaning “Hangeul Central Road,” narrowly referring to the section of ‘Saemunan-ro 3-gil’ and ‘Sejong-daero 23-gil’, and broadly encompassing all the roads in this area, the birth of Hangeul, and even Gyeongbokgung Palace, the banpo site.
